Indicators of BHO.aim and other Adware

It’s hard to tell exactly how spyware attacks your computer on a case by case basis. With are so many different forms of adware, malware, and spyware you can’t possibly narrow the culprit down, but there are indicators of BHO.aim and other adware, that let’s you know your computer is not working properly.

System Performance – Adware drains your system’s memory, which could drastically slow down the performance. It can also cause your system to become unstable and affect your internet connection speed as it eats up bandwidth to communicate information back to its creator.

Pop-up Ads – If you notice more pop-up ads than usual, it’s a sign that some type of adware has latched onto your system. In some cases, pop-up ads begin appearing on even if you have not opened your web browser.

Start Up Programs – If you notice it’s taking longer than normal when you turn on your computer, check your start up menu for the culprit since adware will attempt to latch onto your Windows start up list.

Browser Toolbars – Adware can come bundled with free downloads that are displayed as “Advertiser Supported.”  When this happens, the toolbar then feeds advertisements based on the websites you visit. Be cautious of free downloads.

Software Failure – If you ignore adware it won’t go away. In fact, it can cause some of your programs to stop working or crash. When this happens your IE browser will not be functional and you will not be able to perform any functions.

If you are experiencing any of the signs above, the best thing to do is to purchase a spyware removal programs. Don’t bother with the free programs because they don’t always remove adware and it will only return to frustrate you more. Invest in one of the better programs that will be able to detect and removal spyware in its entirety. Some things are worth the investment and it would be in your best interest to spend the money now before or pay for repairs or a new computer later.

SpyZooka – Saved my Brother’s Computer

I have a story to tell, but before I tell you the story let me give you a bit of back ground. I’ve been involved with computers most of my life. I’ve done programming, building and repair, tech support, and IT. I am Microsoft Certified. The computer in this story used to be mine. I built it up from scratch and kept it free of any infections for over 3 years. Then I had to move over seas and thus gave it to my 15 year old brother so he would have a Windows computer to use for school since the only computer in the house is a iMac and the file types from an iMac is incompatible with Windows machines, so he was unable to do his home work at home and was dependant on going over to other family member’s homes to get his school work done.

I went home for the holidays and while at my family home I was informed that my little brother’s computer was acting strange. I ask him what it is doing and get a very vague answer so go into his room to do some trouble shooting. The computer is crawling, barely able to get online, getting pop ups, some random sexually explicit porn pop ups are occurring, and the computer would freeze up. My little brother tells me he has run the antivirus I installed and it found nothing. From what the computer was doing I knew the antivirus wouldn’t have found anything.

What we are dealing with is spyware, the kind of spyware that most anti-spyware programs these days don’t deal with. This was the work of rootkits, which dig into the programming of your machine and work its way into the root, your registry. From the research I have been doing on spyware and spyware programs these past few months I knew there was only one effective fix for my brother’s problems that did not involve a format and reinstall. Using one of the user accounts on the computer we were able to get online. We downloaded and registered SpyZooka, updated, and ran the program. You would probably think with all the problems I described he was infected with a whole bunch of spyware. You would be wrong. He only had 2 spyware programs on his computer, and they caused all those problems. Only one could have done the same if it is one of the newer rootkit spyware programs. After running SpyZooka, the problem was completely cleared up.

So how did the computer get infected in the first place? I wasn’t able to get a straight answer out of him. Being as he is a 15 year old boy maybe he got curious and checked out a porn site. Porn sites are known to infect your computer with spyware and other malware. He does a lot of downloading files off sites and via file sharing programs. He could have gotten the infection that way. He also has the bad habit of opening any file he gets via email. His friends will forward around messages, jokes, etc. that have files attached. That is also a good way to infect your computer. No matter how he got the infection he no longer has it, and he is protected from further infection now that SpyZooka is on his computer.

SpyZooka is the only anti-spyware program I trust because they are the only program that guarantees 100% removal. No other company does that.

Carl Haugen – Founder of BluePenguin Software

You may well be aware of BluePenguin Software’s products, but in case you aren’t I’ll give you the basics. BluePenguin Software created SpyZooka the only anti-spyware software on the market with a 100% removal guarantee. That is a big thing in today’s world. This article isn’t about BluePenguin Software though. This article is about the man responsible, Carl Haugen.

Who is Carl Haugen? How did he come to make BluePenguin Software?

To answer those questions we have to start in Rogers, Minnesota when Carl was 13 years of age. At 13 Carl started his first business. He raised, trained, bred, and showed llamas. He took his llamas all over the United States for shows, even placed first in the Minnesota State Faire which is one of the toughest competitions in the nation. Then at 15 he started his second business. He farmed 8 acres of certified organic vegetables and 19 acres of other crops.

When Carl moved to Moscow, Idaho to attend University of Idaho’s business school, he sold off his companies. It was after that in July 2004 that he had his first encounter with spyware. Carl had to completely wipe his hard drive to get rid of the spyware. When he looked around for a solution so that it would not happen again he couldn’t find a solution to spyware. Carl fell back on his experience as an entrepreneur and started BluePenguin Software and the development of SpyZooka. In 2007 Carl moved to Boca Raton, FL. Blue Penguin Software is still headquartered there.

Who is Carl outside of this? I can tell you what he likes to do with his free time. Carl really enjoys cooking. He likes music and movies, and enjoys working out at the gym, traveling, and sailing.

Spy Guarder – Why You Should Avoid It

Do you have spyware on your computer? If you aren’t really that computer savvy, you may not even know if you do have it. Many have never even heard of it, let alone know what it is. Spy Guarder is software you want to avoid if you find you are infected and need good anti-spyware software. This one isn’t good – not at all.

You’re thinking, “What in the heck is spyware?” It is software that installs itself on your computer and causes all kinds of havoc. Not only can it severely harm your pc, it can also get all kinds of personal and private information that you thought was secure. How do you know if you have it? Here are some of the symptoms you will have if your computer is victimized:

  • A barrage of pop-ups
  • Strange search results and lots of ads
  • A frequently changing homepage
  • New toolbar in your browser
  • Sluggish performance
  • Keys on your keyboard that don’t work correctly
  • Random error messages

These are just a few of the signs that spyware has been installed on your pc. Where does it come from? Many times it comes from websites you have visited or files you may have downloaded. This is why it is so important to be cautious when surfing the internet.

What kind of harm can it cause? It can eventually cause your computer to crash. It can also steal your identity, your passwords, and your banking and credit card information. Can you imagine the chaos that can result from software that tracks your every move?

What should you do if you suspect you are infected? First of all, do not download any of the anti-spyware programs that may be popping up, offering to get rid of the infections for you. These rogue software programs, such as Spy Guarder, promise to clean your computer up and restore your security for a price. Do they work? Not very well, if at all. In fact, some of these rogue programs will install even more parasites on your system.

Finding good, reputable anti-spyware software is the most important thing you should do. Getting rid of these viruses and infections as quickly as possible is extremely important. The longer they are on your computer, the more harm that will probably be done.

Many anti-spyware programs do a decent job, but most don’t completely clear up the problem. In this case, many times you must purchase a second software program to clean up the remaining infections. For the most reliable program, do your homework and find out which is the best. You can find information on these programs, good and bad, all over the web.

There are anti-spyware software programs that will do the job the first time, and protect your security and pc from future invasion. Whatever you do, do not download any rogue software like Spy Guarder – this is simply asking for trouble. Stick with a reputable company, and protect your identity.

BHO.anh is adware and can be a pain if it infects your system. It can take several forms and presents a high risk to your system. If your computer has a sudden surge of pop-ups, pop-unders, or banner ads, BHO.anh may have hijacked your system.

I Almost Got Fooled By Wista Antivirus

Wista Antivirus was one tricky rogue program when I had it.  The images they used were so real, it almost had me fooled.  Luckily, the “W” in its name raised a few question marks over my head.

Before I really get into Wista Antivirus, I should probably mention that I just recently jumped onto the Windows Vista bandwagon.  In case anyone wants to know, it’s a pretty program, but it’s awfully buggy.  Anyway, I got my infection when I was watching a video on the Internet.

I missed one of my favorite shows one night because I was working late.  I heard about this thing where you can watch TV on the Internet, so I thought I’d check it out so I could catch up on my program.  I guess I should have shopped around a little better, because after I clicked the video screen to pick my show, it downloaded a “video codec.”  That’s when Wista Antivirus struck.

At first, I thought Wista Antivirus was a new feature in Windows Vista.  It was pretty neat that Windows put out some antivirus protection, or so I thought.  I let it run through the scanning part.

While I was watching Wista Antivirus do its thing, I noticed the “W” in its name.  For that matter, I noticed that the font didn’t match any other Vista stuff.  When it was done with the scan, I was amazed at the results.

Wista Antivirus told me that I had 54,689 viruses on my system.  That REALLY struck me as being strange.  I had a virus infection some years back.  There was only one, but you’d think my computer was about to die.  Let’s just say that I didn’t think that Windows Vista or my new computer were quite good enough to handle that big of an infection.

After all that, Wista Antivirus told me that I had to buy the upgrade to clean my virus infection.  The price tag they showed was just insane.  I knew that there were cheaper antivirus programs out there.

While I was searching for a new antivirus program, I saw something about Wista Antivirus removal instructions.  I was curious about this, so I checked it out.  As it turns out, it was a rogue security tool, and that I needed an antispyware program to get rid of it.

Because of my laziness, I hadn’t renewed my preinstalled antispyware program.  Now, knowing that I needed one to get rid of Wista Antivirus, I was in the market for a new antispyware tool.

As it turns out, all the antispyware programs say they’re the best.  It’s not surprising really; that’s just marketing.  However, that didn’t assure me at all that they could get rid of Wista Antivirus.  I decided I would look for a 100% removal guarantee.

That really narrowed things down.  Only SpyZooka made that guarantee.  I checked them out, and liked what I saw.  I like the idea of a constant search for new spyware on the Internet.  I bought it, used it, and haven’t heard from Wista Antivirus, or any other spyware, since.

Interspace Protection Inc. Is a Universe of Trouble

I’ve seen the evolution of a lot of different rogue (fake) anti-spyware.  Programs like Interspace Protection Inc. have kept up with the various blogs and forums available to the average user.  This type of media helps the average user to identify symptoms of infection created by rogue anti-spyware programs.  At the same time, programs like Interspace Protection Inc. are hot on the trail  of “old school” spyware trickery.  The in-your-face tactics of the past have evolved to a more subtle form of deceit.

One constant in the world of spyware is the means of infection.  These days most malware is loaded on your computer through a Trojan Zlob or Vondu.  They are very hard to detect because they are hidden in the download of video or free software.  “Questionable” sites like the 18+ variety, those offering pirated software, and peer to peer (P2P) file sharing communities are notorious for harboring these types of infections.  Hardly anything is free online—there always seems to be an ulterior motive.

Interspace Protection Inc. will quietly run in the background every time you start up Windows.  It will monitor every stroke on your keyboard, tracking important passwords, identity, and browsing habits.  What used to come as serious attack of pop-ups that would never stop or close has changed to an occasional pop-up warning, making the program seem more authentic.

If you click on the pop-up, the scan starts without your permission.  It will report a number of potential threats.  These threats are actually necessary files on your computer renamed as some ominous sounding form of spyware.  You have to purchase the program to remove the files.  Deletion of the files could result in your whole computer crashing, forcing a cleaning out of your entire hard drive and restarting Windows.

Symptoms of Interspace Protection Inc. include unwanted toolbars, searchbars, taskbars, desktop shortcuts, and a hijacked homepage.  When you start a search, the first 1-3 pages will have to be shuffled through to get to the information you needed.  Your computer’s wallpaper and screensaver could change.  Random beeps may come from your computer speakers for no known reason.

Remove Interspace Protection Inc. immediately.  However, this is not as simple as you may think.  The Add/Remove function in your computer is meaningless.  These files are very well hidden, and removal should only be done by an experienced computer technician.  If you happen to miss or delete the wrong file, it could be disastrous.

You need to find a reputable anti-spyware program.  Do your research first.  Some people think that they have to purchase 2 or 3 programs to cover all their bases.  I think they are purchasing poorly developed programs.  A good program will get everything before you do.  Try finding anti-spyware that has received recognition and rewards.  There are only a handful of anti-spyware programs that have received the Tucow 5 Cows reward (the Oscars of software).  Are they a member in good standing of the Better Business Bureau?  Can they offer a 24-hour removal guarantee?
